An Idea Turns into a Podcast
Two years ago I nervously hit publish on my very first podcast episode, which is a conversation with my first born, my son, who led me to the world of unschooling.
I had no prior podcasting experience nor had I ever taken a class to learn how to interview people, record conversations, or edit audio. I simply had an idea and vision: talk to people and share their stories in the hopes of providing ideas and information to nurture and connect people to their children, themselves, and to each other.
In true self-directed fashion I followed my interest and appreciation of the art form of podcasting and spent months reading, watching, and listening to anything that could get me closer to creating a podcast of my very own.
Then, for 24 months after that first episode, I have talked to authors, entrepreneurs, social media influencers, micro school creators, a functional podiatrist, healer, therapist, TV show creator/actors, teachers, one of my college professors and important mentor to me, and tons of parents who chose to homeschool their children.
While it’s not a homeschooling only podcast, many of my guests have turned to homeschooling after trying the traditional school model. If there is one overarching theme across all conversations though, it is that each guest desires to inspire others by sharing their unique perspective, work, and experiences.
When I talk to people, I find that they simply want their children (or children in general) to be respected, nurtured, and supported.
They want to create something that helps others in some small way—whether it’s to laugh, to adventure more, to take risks, to learn, to reconsider, to reach out, to relax, to let go, or to improve.
When we pull back the layers and cut through the noise, I think deep down we are all trying to tap into our own creative abilities in order to inspire or support another.
And my little podcast is no different. Join me in celebrating TWO YEARS, 33 EPISODES, and the POWER of internal motivation and following our interests by sharing your favorite conversations, a-ha! moments, or tips you’ve implemented in your own life. Or, you can share the podcast with friends and family. Thank you, thank you for your support!
Where to find us
Where to find us: The Let ‘em go Barefoot podcast is available on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, and Podbean.
How to listen? The choices are unlimited. Here are some of my favorite ways to listen:
while doing dishes or tidying up the house,
while mowing the grass,
on a walk,
in the car running errands,
while painting or drawing,
when I’m winding down for the day.
Upcoming episodes will showcase the stories of public school teachers—-ones who left the system and ones who have stayed put. Should be interesting and informative. In the meantime, enjoy the ones already availalbe!
